Personal Life
Conservation remains at the heart of my work. Through my photography, I aim to inspire others to care for our planet’s ecosystems and protect the beauty that surrounds us. When I’m not behind the camera or on the water, I’m at home with my two cats, enjoying the simple moments and planning my next outdoor adventure.
When I’m not out on the water or hiking through the wilderness, I’m at home with my two cats, who keep me grounded and entertained. Recently, I took my love for exploration to the next level by purchasing an RV, which allowed me to spend last winter in Florida. While there, I focused on expanding my photography skills with drone work, capturing stunning aerial views of the diverse landscapes and wildlife.

Professional Career
Hi! I’m Molly Shanahan, the photographer behind Molly B by the Sea.
My love for the ocean began long before I picked up a camera. I started working as a Deckhand for Granite State Whale Watch before college, and ever since, the sea has felt like home. Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of marine life and the open water, I was drawn to photography as a way to capture and share those awe-inspiring moments.
After a few seasons on the water, I pursued a career in engineering, but spending my days in an office left me feeling unfulfilled. Longing to reconnect with the outdoors, I turned to hiking, exploring trails and landscapes every chance I got. These weekend adventures reignited my desire to capture the beauty of the world around me, and I knew that photography was the creative outlet I needed.
It wasn’t long before I found myself back on the boat, camera in hand, working once again as a Photographer and Deckhand for Granite State Whale Watch. Here, I’ve been able to merge my technical skills with my passion for the natural world, photographing whales and other marine wildlife for conservation efforts with the Blue Ocean Society.
